SEW crazy!

Knitting has kind of ruled my creative life for the last 2 years. So much so that I felt my modest sewing skills start to slip. SEW I decided to make a little skirt for myself. Once I saw this blue checked fabric, I started having visions of the 4th of July. You might not know me that well, or at all, but know this- I LOVE dressing up for holidays that don't require it. Christmas- eh. Easter- sigh. 4th of July?! I'd like to look like a fabulous Americana chick. I'd like a 50's inspired silhouette.
The answer? A (rather imperfect) Picnic skirt! Check the pics out.

The pocket lining is my FAVORITE part!
I'm sorta tempted to wear this inside out.

I've still got the hem to finish, and um, a lot to brush up on sewing. But considering I made this without a pattern (and with a hazy recollection of my last quarter in school), I'm patting myself on the back

The skirt is high-waisted, and hits about mid calf. I added two gussets (one in the front, one in the back) for movement. I'm thinking of making a patchwork-ish bow, attaching it to simple white tank, and calling it an outfit.
